Got my guitar back from a setup and now the ebony fretboard has surface scratches. Is this fixable?
Looking for some advice from people who know fretboard work.
I have a custom shop guitar with an ebony fretboard, and after a recent setup it came back with a bunch of visible surface scratches/marks on the board. I’m honestly pretty pissed about it because this is a very special guitar to me.
So to me this seems more like surface scratching from the finishing/refining process, not deep damage in the ebony itself. It almost looks like something like steel wool or another fine abrasive was used and the surface just wasn’t properly refined afterward.
What makes this even more surprising is that the tech is actually one of the highest-rated in my city. I’ve taken four other guitars to him before and and they came back fine, which is why this caught me so off guard.
Does this look like a superficial issue that can be corrected with the frets still in place? How it would be done?
